Artist Statement:
On my last trip to New York City, the recent revival of “On the Town” had just opened. Billboards of the three sailors with the NYC skyline in the background covered Times Square. “New York, New York, it’s a toddlin’ town” seemed the refrain of the day. This inspired me to continue a series of cityscape quilts, this one of New York, with the skyscrapers looming above pedestrians walking the streets in midtown Manhattan. The quilt’s title references a painting by Georgia O’Keefe, which inspired the large tilted building in the center of the quilt.
