Artsist Statement:
The Sunset moth, native to Madagascar, is so beautiful that it was initially identified as a butterfly in 1773. It’s 3 inch iridescent wings, dripping with color, were featured in National Geographic
magazine in a photograph by Charles Krebs. After receiving Mt. Krebs’ permission to create an art quilt inspired by his photograph, I spent the next 10 years mulling over the best way to depict the lovely creature in fiber. Finally, sequestered in my studio during COVID 19, ideas began to flow.
